Teacher Improvement
Jounce coaching is content-agnostic. Partner Schools appreciate that Jounce build teaching skills and techniques that are applicable across grade levels and subject matter.
One Jounce coach is can help instructional leaders build content knowledge in elementary math, lead them through middle school ELA classroom live coaching, and prepare them to implement a new highschool curriculum. Jounce's thorough application of learning science to teaching techniques and instructional leadership allows for flexibility and adaptability to meet each Partner School's needs.
“Our Jounce coach was specifically coaching my assistant principal of K-2 instruction in literacy. He didn’t support my Assistant Principal with math, but the habits that she developed and was able to really share with teachers helped them take on ownership of math as well. So in addition to more than doubling our school’s number of readers at grade level, we also exceeded our math goal without putting a lot of direct input into math instruction.”
“Our geometry teacher is way more effective now at kids practicing after Jounce coaching. He used really carry the cognitive load. Now the teacher is collecting data throughout the period and is able to identify kids who need additional instruction, and then within that class period, he actually sends the kids off who are good to work independently. Then he pulls that small group of kids to the back of the room, and he delivers a mini lesson, like more specific, individualized instruction to that small group. Mastery rates are a lot higher, more kids are learning, because they weren’t getting differentiated instruction. Now he’s meeting the needs of more of his kids and I think that’s actually a through line in general, our Jounce coach does a good job of getting teachers to notice what kids are accomplishing and to look at it every single day.”
“Jounce coaching does a great job of peeling back the onion layers of education. We want to meet all learners in our classroom, but we’re meeting all learners in our building as well with a tailored approach to professional development. We always talk about differentiation for kids, meeting them where they’re at, and accelerating like they’re learning, but we have to do that with our teachers too. I think sometimes we forget, but if we miss that layer, we’re not meeting our kids’ needs because our teachers aren’t getting what they need.”
